Sat, 21 Jun 2003 Sick...

I started in office yesterday to feel some symptoms (cold, fever), and I came back home early... Eventually I was off today.

I guess I was right, as my temperature went from 38°2C yesterday night, to 38°5C this morning, and finally 39°5C this afternoon...

If I don't feel better tomorrow, I will have to see a doctor (it is easy, there is a clinic just down my building).

Sun, 15 Jun 2003 Just coming back from Phuket

I just came back from Phuket, where I spent two weeks, including a 4 days sailing trip.

The main difference with my last trip is that there were only three customers in the hotel (the SARS effect). For the same reasons, the prices were really low.

SARS is really the problem, and the Thai government is launching a SARS-FREE guarantee for USD 100,000. This could be interesting, but you will only get this prize if you die (!!) from SARS within 90 days after a trip to Thailand. No thanks!

Another interesting point: During the boat trip, we stopped on a small island, and we decided to have a beer in a small restaurant near the beach.
Halas! The shop cannot sell alcohol any more: Even if the owner is Bhudist, the Muslim community around the area is putting a lot of pressure (I don't know which kind of) to force everybody to follow their own rules :-(
I guess that alcohol was previously the main source of revenues over there; this is probably the end for this shop, then for this nice island itself when tourists will avoid it. I am not sure the local population needed this with the current situation :-(

Wed, 21 May 2003 Going to sail again...

Sailing in Thailand I am sailing, I am sailing,
home again 'cross the sea.
I am sailing, stormy waters,
to be near you, to be free.
-- Rod Stewart

I am going to sail again in two weeks! This will be in Phuket again, for the third time in less than one year time, but isn't it a nice place?
This time, I will probably sail on Fi-Tuen. It looks a nice boat!

Nothing is really 100% decided yet, but it is very likely this will happen, as I need to take a lot of holidays these coming months...

Sun, 27 Apr 2003 Roppongi Hills opening

Roppongi Hills opened its door this week. I saw this complex growing for more than two years!
This is just near our home, and we will be able to find there restaurants, shopping places, cinemas, etc... Nice!
We had a small walk there this friday, and maybe we could go to see Cube 2 tonight, if Li is not too afraid ;-)

Sun, 27 Apr 2003 Time to leave Japan

I cannot say that I am happy: My company decided that I must go back to Paris (the usual mobility argument). This move should happen in September. I guess Li and Boudicca will join me one or two months later, when the apartment will be ready.
We will try to find one (apartment) inside Paris, not far from the Japanese (Rue Ste-Anne) or Chinese (13th district) communities...

The good point of it is that I must clear my remaining holidays ;-)

Sat, 26 Apr 2003 New geek stuff

I just received my new silly geek stuff from thinkgeek.

Two tee-shirts, one saying "Scan my network and die", and one printed with "There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary and those who don't".

The other stuff is an incredible hand gyroscope than you can speed up to 15,000 rotations per minute by hand (but I was still not able to pass the 10,000 symbolic barrier!).

Mon, 31 Mar 2003 Returning from Phuket

I just returned from Phuket this morning.

But at the last moment, before the departure, Li decided to cancel her trip, and she really made a mistake:
She wanted to get a new job in a small company, which told her that she should cancel her holidays. So she did.
But later on the company cancelled the position, and Li started to work as planned in Tokio Marine insurance company.

We were surely not lucky with our 2 last holidays!

Thu, 13 Mar 2003 Lucky Boudicca!

I wrote in this weblog, on March 2nd, that my wife, Li, decided to try her new (and untested!) hairdresser talents on myself with quite poor success...
But yesterday evening, I had to take Boudicca, our dog, from hairdresser, before going back home. She was allowed (even if she does not like it at all!) to avoid a new test...

For your information, my hairdresser is half of the price of my dog's! We are all poor men, aren't we?? ;-)

Sun, 02 Mar 2003 New hairdresser

Kalpana Chawla I got a new haidresser: Li herself!! But the first try, yesterday, showed some leaks in her processing.

I should maybe go back to my regular hairdresser in the future ;-)

This picture was taken by Eddie one week later (with his brand new mobile phone!) in french bar-restaurant Aux Bacchanales, our usual friday-evening place.

Sun, 23 Feb 2003 LOTR - The Two Towers

We went to see it today (it was released in Japan yesterday). Great film!!! It is a pity to need to wait one more year for the last part :-(
